Reece (DJ BAIE)

Way back in 1980, I brought my first DJ set from a DJ named Dave Shaw for $250, who actually owned a business making DJ systems in East Tamaki, South Auckland. We became good friends and he asked me if I wanted to work for him as a DJ in one of his four Nightclubs, I jumped at the opportunity and worked in all four of his clubs and more, the rest is "as they say" history. I haven't stopped Djing since that day, except for holidays and the occasional breaks here and there. I have had the pleasure to teach many new and up-coming DJs about the pros and cons of the industry and helping them to chose the right equipment for mobile work, especially the best quality speakers to use because you could have the most plane and basic setup, but everyone will always remember the quality of the music played. Equally important, is the lighting, most DJs have inadequate lighting or none at all. Music without lighting is dull and boring and should be used always.

In the public arena, everyone from parents to the major hotel chains, for example, my last job (before moving to Perth) was in Auckland City at the Sheraton Hotel on Symonds St. I worked for them most Friday and Saturday nights Djing for their corporate functions. I have performed at every event possible from birthday parties to weddings, nightclubs to small cocktail bars, highrise apartments to backyard house parties.

I have two major concert that I DJ at, the first one is at the Holroyd Gardens Park in Merrylands that I DJ at every year around the beginning of Febuary, the free concert attracts approximately, fifteen to twenty thousand people throughout the day, sometimes more. I usually arrive around 8am and leave well after it finishes at 5pm to have a meeting with the management officials to basically talk about how the day went. The second was at the Francis Park in Blacktown, but this year was changed to the Mount Druitt Swimming Centre. I offer my services to some of the charitable organisations and fundraisers for free and "in most cases" they feed me and I'm more than happy with that.
