The Sound Weaver

Music teacher

3070 Northcote14.7 km from Box Hill South
Biography The Sound Weaver (Jacinta Percy) is a songstress, explorer, hunter, nurturer, lover, and a seeker of truth. She is a woman who is devoted to exploring the mystery of sound, resonance, breath, stillness and song. Jacinta’s love affair with the voice, sound and music began as a wee babe, with Richard Clayderman being the only medicine that would lull her to sleep. It was an inevitable journey with a piano-playing songstress for a grandmother and a great-great-aunt, dubbed “Queen of the Irish Song”, in her family lineage. This calling and her deep love and passion for voice, sound and music have led her over the past fifteen years to perform and work with profound teachers in Australia, Europe, Israel and India. She is crisscrossing genres from Classical to Jazz, Folk to Improvisation, Dhrupad to Carnatic. At the young age of twenty-four, Jacinta was invited to teach and guide others. She continues to follow this path. She is teaching privately at her music studio based in Northcote and facilitating group workshops in Melbourne, Australia. For all wanting to remember their true voice, sound and nature. Her knowledge of her voice, her open heart and listening ear, allows her to assist with a gentle grace that enables others to uncover what they are seeking. Her belief that we all need to sing, sing with courage, sing with joy, sing to mama earth. To discover our greatness and shine forth our potential into the world. This belief is what inspires her to share her love and passion to all her students. Singing & Vocal Lesson Everyone can sing! Our voices are the most extraordinary musical instruments. Teaching in line with the European standards, I am flexible and use Australian experience in my work. I enjoy teaching students and strive to establish a friendly, interactive atmosphere within a lesson. Being motivated and enthusiastic I encourage students to appreciate music of different styles. My approach to teaching and an ability to reveal the individual musical potential of each student always lead to results exceeding expectations. My students range from prep to A. Mus. level. I specialise in providing music instruction to children and adults, preparing them for AMEB and VCE exams, although some students express interest in taking Piano for Leisure or prefer to work outside the exam structure.

Wether it's writing a song, or finding the fun in practice, I make sure my students are enthused to be able to work on their craft through out the week. A session is important but what's more important is the individuals own capacity to excel, and by highlighting the things in music that are most valuable to them I create leaversge for them to practice and progress :)

Most singing teachers don't actually teach you how to sing. I do. From the ground up, whatever your skill level, the things that you need to know to improve your singing are more fundamental, surprising, and straightforward than you might expect. Also - hopefully no surprise - it will take work (practice!) on your part. So don't expect a miracle here, just effective and enjoyable teaching!

Training and studies to become a music teacher

The profession of music teacher is practised in conservatories, in the national education system and as a freelancer. The choice of career path depends on this. To teach in secondary schools, it is necessary to have mastered one or more instruments and to have studied at university up to M1 (Master 1) in the field of music, then to take the CAPES examination (teaching in public establishments) or the CAFEP in musical education and choral singing (teaching in private establishments). If you wish to teach in a conservatory, you must have a certificate of aptitude which is obtained after a three-year diploma course at the CNSM (Conservatoires nationaux supérieurs de musique et de danse) in Paris or Lyon, or by VAE (validation of acquired experience).

The scope of a music teacher's work

As a civil servant of the French Ministry of Education, the music teacher is assigned to middle and high schools, where he/she is the only teacher, and thus teaches all classes generally one hour per week, more for classes with special music and dance schedules. He teaches his pupils music in a general way according to a programme defined by the Ministry of National Education: training in singing, learning solfeggio, introduction to various musical trends, playing a musical instrument, generally the flute... When he teaches at a communal, departmental, regional or national conservatory, he is more specialised and thus offers lessons in a particular type of music or instrument. His students have a variety of ages: children, adults and teenagers. And when he gives music lessons as a freelancer, he knows how to adapt to the demands of his pupils and generally specialises in one discipline.

Why use a music teacher?

Being musically inclined can be learned, but for some people music runs in their veins. People call on a music teacher to learn to sing, to play a particular instrument, to learn about different musical trends, to study music theory to improve their level, etc.

How to find a music teacher?

Finding a music teacher becomes child's play when you use a directory like StarOfService. You can find many music teachers offering private or group lessons in your region or city. All that remains is to choose the one who can make you become the next Mike Jaeger, Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston or other famous artists.

The fees of a music teacher

In France, music lessons range from €20 to €65 per hour. The price is higher when the lessons are intended for students preparing for a music exam or competition. In addition, lessons can take several forms which influence the price: - Online music lessons: €20 to €30/hour; - Private music lessons: from €25 depending on the instrument chosen; - Music lessons at a conservatory: from €70 per year, determined by several criteria such as family income and geographical location.

How to choose a music teacher?

The choice of a music teacher will depend mainly on whether you want to learn singing or an instrument. You will then turn to a specialised teacher if you wish to learn guitar, piano, violin or other instruments, or to a generalist teacher if you wish to improve your musical culture and learn the basics of music with solfege.
